Caring for Leather Bags and Shoes in Nigerian Weather
Heat, humidity and rain can shorten the life of leather goods. These simple habits help protect your investment.
Store leather bags and shoes in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Do not leave them in a hot vehicle or against a damp wall, especially during the rainy season.
A simple care routine
- Wipe dust with a soft, dry cloth after use.
- Let wet leather dry naturally at room temperature. Keep it away from hairdryers, heaters and strong sun.
- Use a conditioner made for the specific leather and test it on a hidden area first.
- Keep shoes in their shape with paper or shoe trees, and use dust bags for bags.
Never store leather while it is damp. If you notice mould, isolate the item from other goods and seek a professional leather cleaner rather than applying household bleach or harsh detergent.
